With the ongoing pursuit for new methods and materials
for home building in North Carolina, it is ironic that
we look hundreds of years back to our ancestors in Europe
where concrete was and still is widespread in its use.
Technology in the concrete forms manufacturing business
has allowed for great advancements in the use of concrete
in home building and has begun to penetrate the U. S.
market.
Our
years of experience in concrete foundations, basements,
and excavation have led us to broaden our services to
include complete home construction. Tri-City Contractors,
in keeping with its philosophy of being leaders in concrete
construction technology, has built, in Raleigh and at
Topsail Island some of the first residential concrete
homes of this type in the country. All interior and
exterior walls, floors and, in some case, stairs were
poured at one time, thereby creating a monolithic r
unitized structure which is virtually impervious to
air infiltration. This process was then repeated on
the second level and could continue up to 5 levels.
The exterior walls are covered with 2" of expanded
polystyrene insulation which becomes an integral part
of the insulating properties of thermal mass that makes
this concrete structure the highest rated energy efficient
home available in today's market. Additionally, this
type of construction provides huge benefits in safety,
maintenance and noise reduction.
One might think that all this concrete produces a cold
and drab environment, however the finished product reveals
nothing more than what one would see in conventional
stick built home construction and provides a living
environment equaled by none.
